Beginning in 2003, the Give Something Back International Foundation started giving sponsorships to needy children in grades K-12 in Vietnam and Thailand. We are currently sponsoring about 125 children per school year. The children are carefully chosen on the basis of need. Many are orphans or come from broken homes. Almost all the children have to work to support their families or themselves, often earning the equivalent of just a few pennies a day. By providing sponsorships we enable the children to continue at school where they can master the basic skills of reading and writing. Through their education the children get a fairer chance in life and an opportunity to escape from the poverty into which they were born. The information below was taken directly from the child and translated into English.

My Family: I have three sisters, all
of whom are in primary school or college. To be able to pay all their
fees and living expenses, my parents have to work very hard on their
small orchard. Because of bad weather and a lack of investment, the crops
have not been very good in recent years and we hardly earn much from
it. Besides us three children, my parents are also supporting my aunt
who has a mental disability and is unable to work. My family is unable
to afford rice for more than 5 days, even though it costs only VND 3,500
(US $0.22) a kilo. Last year I earned a pretty good school report.
Wishes for the future: I wish to become
a doctor. |

My Family: The five members of my family live in a
house provided by our local government. My parents sell their labor to
other people in order to care for us. My two siblings and I are all going
to school and this is a true burden on my
parents. We do not even have our own source of water and have to use
water from our neighbors. We do not have electricity at home, so in the
evening we study with an oil lamp. Your sponsorship has such a positive
effect on our
lives.
Wishes for the future: I want to get a stable job in
the future. |

My Family: My mother has had to care for my younger
brother and I since my father left for another woman. We live in my uncle's
small house. My mum, who received little education, tries her best to
enable her two children to get a higher education than her. She works
for hire, doing various jobs like mending fishnets or going fishing on
the big reservoir in my area. Her income is very little and unstable.
Rice is only bought erratically in my family.
Wishes for the future: I hope that I will find a stable
job in the future. |

My Family: This small house is just enough for my grandparents
and I to live in. They aren't only my grandparents but also are my parents.
Because after my father left us to follow another woman, my mother went
away, too. I totally depend on their unstable income of my old grandparents.
Although they are old, they still wok as hired labourers to earn some
money for three of us.
Wishes for the future: I do hope that I can continue
my studying in the future. |

My Family: My parents have three children who are going
to school. They tire themselves out working on the farms of others to
maintain our living standards. My parent's monthly income is not enough
to support all of our daily needs in addition to our school expenses.
The most valuable things in our tole-roofed house are an obsolete wardrobe
and an old bicylce. I am so happy to know, that thanks to your sponsorship,
I will be able to finish school.
Wishes for the future: I hope that my parents won’t
be worried about our future. |

My Family: I am living with my parents. My parents
are farmers. We don’t have any valuable facilities at home and
our means of transportation is one bicycle for the whole family. Like
many families, we live in very poor condition, and each time when buying
rice, my mother can only afford to buy half of a kilogram. I always help
my mother to do her housework. Your sponsorship has such a positive effect
on our lives.
Wishes for the future: I want to be a tailoress. |

My Family: My family has four members and the four
of us have to work hard by selling our labor to others to sustain our
living. My parents both work really hard, but their jobs are unstable
and they are often unemployed. They never seem to be able to earn enough
to cover our living expenses. The future is so gloomy for us. We live
in government housing with only one old TV and an obsolete bicycle. I
am so happy to know that thanks to your sponsorship I will be able to
finish school.
Wishes for the future: I want to become a teacher in
the future. |

My Family: Sometimes my family can't get a wink of
sleep because my house is leaky and it rains often. There are some holes
in the roof and all of our house seems to be wet. My parents know that
they have to repair it as soon as possible but they can't afford to do
that. We had an old black-white televison before but it has been broken
down for a long time. Like my parents, my brothers and sister dropped
out of school early to work for hire to support the whole family. My
studying results were very good last school year.
Wishes for the future: I hope that my parents won't
be worried about our future. |

My Family: We have to thank the local government because
they gave us a small piece of land to build a house. Although that house
is narrow and rotten now, it can help us to avoid the rain and sun. My
parents are illiterate. Every day my
mother collects bottles and cans to sell and my father repairs bicycles
to cover our everyday needs and pay school fees for my younger brother
and me. Our life still meets many difficulties, but they try their best
to bring up us. I am so happy to know, that thanks to your sponsorship,
I will be able to finish my school.

My Family: I am living with my parents and two siblings
in a small house. My parents are farmers. We plant sweet potatoes. However,
we can't earn enough money for living because we don't have much land.
My parents sometimes work as hired laborers to get more money. My siblings
are still young and at school like me. After school, we do the housework
and glean the potatoes in the field. We are so grateful to have your
support.

My Family: My family has seven people. We can't have
a good life with my parent's unstable income. My father and my two brothers
go to Ho Chi Minh City to work as hired laborers. Our sole property is
an old bicycle which is used for my sister to go to school. I can't go
with her because we start school at different times. My school is also
far from our house but a bicycle is too expensive for me. I always hitchhike
with my friend to school. If anyone gives me a wish, I will wish for
a new bicycle after my parents have enough money to repair our house.
Because it leaks now, we can't have a good sleep when it rains.

house with no valuable things and a roof that is rotten. Each day my
